Bedroom
Friday, 20 December 2013
Hello hello!
Here are some details from my bedroom. My friendly photographer Beci was helping me take pictures of my room and studio for an up coming project so I thought of share a few with you lovely lot.
I haven't decorated it for about 6 years and it's a tad twee for my liking. I'm not the most tidy person by any stretch of the imagination, so out of shot is sort of just a sea of papers and clothes and bits. Looking forward to redecorating it in the new year and finally getting a bunch of things framed and on the walls.
Things are hectic around here with Christmas around the corner but I'm oh so looking forward to a rest and some proper family time. Nice.
Birds
Monday, 16 December 2013
Yesterday I visited the Horniman Museum in south London and I absolutely loved the place - as you will have noticed if you follow my Instagram. Here are some of the pictures of the bird displays, taken on my phone unfortunately, but you get the gist of the wonderful and interesting creatures they had to look at.
I think it's given me the idea for a collection that I've been feeling rather lost about (SS15) and am so happy to feel full of inspiration and have a buzzing mind.
Simply can't wait to go back there!
Blot and Zulpo
Thursday, 5 December 2013
When I was aimlessly browsing the internet looking at mugs (which I seem to spend a lot of time doing) I stumbled upon this Habitat collection Blot and Zulpo. I'm a big fan of the leaky brush strokes and softness of the design. I also really love the colour - perhaps because it matches my Paper Moon collection?
All round goodness in my opinion. I'll take the lot!
Today
Wednesday, 27 November 2013
Today I am mostly wrapping up warm, listening to the hum of the heater and the voices on the radio, sewing custom Liberty dresses, washing fabric and hanging it to dry, drinking too much coffee and wishing it wasn't so cloudy so I could take photos that weren't all grainy and blurry.
Lists like this always remind me of this for some reason.
Apple Picking
Thursday, 21 November 2013
Back in October when we were up London way we decided to go and visit my Grandfather for Sunday lunch and to pick apples from his garden. A lovely day spent eating and drinking (I seem to say that a lot... hmm food and booze) and picking as many apples as our arms could carry.
They say that men with sheds live longer. This chap has got 2 and he's 95, so therefore it must be true.
PAPER MOON
Friday, 15 November 2013
It is time to finally release my Winter 2013 collection. So here you go! Take a look at the whole collection here.
Paper Moon is the title and it is all really themed around the night sky, I just love all those shades of navy and indigo. There are a few variations on old favourites in there: the Midnight Sky dress is a take on my Foxglove dress and the Moonset dress is the same but different as the Poppy dress - both from my Quite Contrary collection last year. There are some new shapes thrown in too and I'm rather chuffed with the smocky shape of the Dimpsy dress.
I only have a limited amount of pieces made up and a little bit of fabric left to make up a few custom orders, so if you see anything that catches your eye don't dilly dally!
PS: 'Dimpsy' is an old Devonian word for dusk. That lovely time of day when the sky is both dim and dark but also an unbelievable bright blue, it makes my eyes go all odd, I like it.

Fading Light
Tuesday, 29 October 2013
Some pictures of my studio from recent weeks. Now the clocks have changed and the evenings are dark it is rather tricky to get any natural light.
I hope everyone is having a lovely week and it enjoying this wintery weather, rain rain rain (oh and super dooper wind apparently). I'm looking forward to Halloween and bonfire night - mainly standing around in front of big fires and drinking watery hot chocolate out of polystyrene cups trying to warm your hands and toes.
Blue Bird
Monday, 21 October 2013
Some flowery photos to brighten up this blustery evening.
I don't know why it's taken me so long to share another one of my Liberty print pieces. This shirt, oh I love the fabric so much, I was going to make it into a dress but then I didn't have enough so I thought it looked rather sweet as a shirt with this linen skirt.
You can buy the shirt here, or here if you are that way inclined. I've got some more floral Liberty tana lawn that is reminding me of summer and begging to be made into something special.
Any thoughts on what I should make?
Quiet Celebrations and Thank Yous
Thursday, 17 October 2013
I always think around this time of year as a sort of birthday time for this little project of mine. Although it sort of snuck up on me and there was no real launch or anything fancy like that, it's been two years now since I started sewing and opened up my Etsy shop.
Thanks for sticking around, reading my nothings on this blog and make it possible for me to make a little bit of money and get a lot of satisfaction out of my home grown business. I feel lucky and it still takes me a bit by surprise that it's actually something that's, like, just happening, if you catch my drift.
This is a picture of the cake we had to celebrate new born babies, pregnant bellies and say farewell and good luck to friends.
I like the way that life moves on, without you noticing, just sort of taking you with it.
Bridesmaids Dresses
Friday, 4 October 2013
Back in July my lovely big sister got married. I was in charge of doing bridesmaid's dresses - and also a lot of planning everything else cos she's a proper doctor person. Oh what a wonderful day it was. I was in floods of tears during the
speeches - perhaps too much cider and not enough sleep to blame, I was
sewing til 2am the night before. Here are some photos from the day of the lovely bridesmaids and some other colourful bits.
The fabric I used was from Stone Fabrics in Totnes. They have an amazing selection of stunning fabrics and the staff are so lovely. I'm so pleased with the way all the dresses looked in the end - although on the day I was sort of sick of the sight of them - I haven't actually got a picture of us all together, but they were all different cuts and shapes, some with sleeves, long skirts, short skirts, low backs and all that jazz.
It was a hot English summers day and the flowers where vibrant and the fit was comfortable. Can't say so much for the sweaty men in their tweed.
