i n s p i r e d : Dedicated Followers Of Fashion

Wednesday, 28 November 2012

Britain on Film is a very good series of programs that has been on BBC Four lately, lots of lovely beautiful footage of Britain in the 60s, with very nice narration too. The latest one was called 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion'. Here are some stills from it:

It says a lot about how Britain has always been a big part in founding fashions, & ever since I was about 15 I've longed to go back in time & hang out at Worlds End, perhaps not with some of the frightening hair dos shown though. I also find it sad how proudly this program talks of the industry we used to have in Britain. They could make a lady's undergarment in under half an hour from start to finish! Fashion was a major export. I always find it ironic that I send most of my dresses to Europe, US & Australia, when this is really a little home grown business I always expected to sell local first, but I suppose this is the ways of the internet, & I feel very proud to be producing something in Britain today, as it seems to be rather a rarity. But anyway, that whole subject will be tackled at a later date, as I could waffle on & on about it. For now, lets just dream about being in the 60s & be proud & jealous of the past, & maybe dress up & do your hair & dance around silly to this song.

Has everyone has a lovely start to the week... golly it's almost December! I've been very busy (sewing til 4am oh gosh) working on some custom pieces that I can't wait to share, for now you can check my instagram to stay up to date.

Just got a few films developed. Some of these photos are left over from summer. I feel life through an old camera lens appears better than reality...

For a while now I have been planning to make a little black dress & a few weeks ago I decided enough was enough & I made myself one when I was stuck for something to wear on a night out.

I've decided to sell it on Etsy as it is sort of an essential right?

The dress is made out of a lovely mix of organic cotton & bamboo, it is stiff enough to keep it's shape but soft & comfortable too. The fabric is woven in India in peoples homes & they weave 3 metres a day. I think it is sad that we don't produce any fabric in the UK, but supporting these individuals is really important.

To introduce this little black dress into the big wide world I am selling it at a ludicrous half ruddy price until Monday. It is perfect for wearing to parties this season or a super little every day piece :)

The Etsy listing is here. If you do not have an Etsy I will be uploading it onto my website this evening.

I do apologise for the photos, the shadow is atrocious, I did it in the corner of my bed room, I couldn't find a pair of unladdered tights, I am very good at being awkward in front of cameras & today has been very wet & windy & dark. Also, one of the lights I was planning to use bulb went... excuses excuses!

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to the yanks, & happy wet Thursday to the rest.

Little Red Riding Hood

A few weeks ago I made up this custom version of my 'Oh Grandma' cape. I love making up new pieces & when someone asks for something different or a new combination it is such a joy. Especially as these capes are all made from vintage velvet so I can only ever make a few out of one piece of fabric.

Sometimes I wish I never had to put things in the post. I want to keep it for myself!

Bless The Weather

Friday, 16 November 2012

You may have noticed some amazing knitwear that I used in my AW shoot a few weeks ago? Well, they were all hand knitted in South London by my friend Siobhan for her shop Bless The Weather. She's just set up a little business knitting gorgeous chunky snoods/scarves/headbands.
Check out the Etsy shop here.

Here are some of my favourate photos from the day featuring her super creations...
(That is my soppy dog Bertie looking confused in the photo)

Not only does this lovely lady make amazing things but she has a very pretty blog Hello Flower. You should definitely take a look.

She also borrowed some of my garments for Bless The Weather's product shoot. This is my absolute fav photo from it...
Check out the models piercing eyes! Wowza.

Oh gosh, I feel like I'm reminiscing looking though all my AW photos, I had such an amazing day & it is so wonderful to be able to 'work' with gorgeous & talented ladies. So much of my day to day work is alone in my studio it is such a great feeling bouncing ideas around & creating something everyone can be proud of... I can't wait for my SS13! Coming soon... (or not so soon)

Have a great weekend chaps!

I have become slightly obsessed with filling my studio with plants.
I like the way these fuschias rest their heads on Canada.
This is my favourite little jug. I accidentally broke the handle, it used to look like a pretty jug shaped knuckle duster.

Greyscale Days

Friday, 9 November 2012

The sun is rarely seen these days. We've had some beautiful crisp autumn skies but they seem to have disappeared behind a grey cloud & I have forgotten what they look like.

I have too many tailors dummies they are taking over. I am doing my best impression of one here.

Today I was wearing my Iris dress, it is wool & lined & has kept me toasty warm all day. I have uploaded all my other AW samples onto Etsy at discounted prices, grab 'em quick cos you won't see them again at this price.

I hope everyone has a cosy weekend.

i n s p i r e d : Exhibitions I Must See

Tuesday, 6 November 2012

I haven't been to London for a few months & am really missing being able to stroll around exhibitions over & over, especially the hours I used to spend staring at the dresses in the permanent collection at the V&A.

Here is a list of amazing looking exhibitions at the moment that I simply must go & see... SOON!

I'm planning a trip to London at the end of November & I imagine it's gonna be pretty jam packed with museum & gallery visits.

Have any of you been to or heard of any good exhibitions at the moment?

Ladybird Likes

When it came to finding accessories to style with my Autumn Winter 2012 collection I had a few ideas in mind for a long time. I was so pleased when Zoe from Ladybird Likes agreed to send me some of her beautiful jewelry to photograph for my look book. As the theme was British countryside, creatures & flowers, I'd been eying up her butterfly necklaces for a while. Here are some photos from the shoot with the lovely Ladybird Likes pieces...

Thanks so much to Zoe for lending me these little beauties, it is such fun collaborating with people, making blog friends & getting to work with other creative individuals :)

Check out Zoe's lovely blog HERE. & the Ladybird Likes Etsy shop HERE.
I will definitaly be going on there for some Christmas shopping soon!

Happy Bonfire night everyone, we are off to see a weird show by some local schools where they burn the set afterwards, it's really odd, can't wait. Oooh I'm so in the mood for watching V for Vendetta too...
Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason, why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
